Historic Preservation in Hyattsville

Founded in 1886, Hyattsville is home to over twenty county historic sites, three National Register properties, and a National Register Historic District. View an interactive map of these sites and their location.

In addition to this map, the Hyattsville Preservation Association (HPA) creates a self-guided walking tour of historic homes each year. Some of these may be county or national historic sites, but others are not. HPA also has brochure of a walking tour of the Hyattsville Historic District.

The City of Hyattsville does not make historic site designations or determine what work can or cannot be done to a historic site. Depending on the designation, these functions are performed by Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission, Maryland Historical Trust, or the National Register of Historic Places.

Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission

Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) receives applications for historic site designation, holds public hearings, makes historic site determinations, and approves or rejects proposed exterior work to county designated sites. For further information, visit the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission's (HPC) website or read our Historical Preservation Resources Guide PDF below.

Maryland Historical Trust

Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) provides funding such as grants, loans, and tax credits for historic preservation activities. To learn more, visit Maryland Historical Trust's (MHT) website or read our Historical Preservation Resources Guide PDF below.
