Temporary Outdoor Seating Permits

Overview

City of Hyattsville businesses may now request a temporary permit to support curbside pick-up, outdoor dining, and/or the consumption of alcoholic beverages during the COVID–19 pandemic. View the City's emergency ordinance authorizing this permit program. Hyattsville businesses wishing to utilize outdoor space during the pandemic must hold both a Prince George's County Outdoor permit and a City of Hyattsville Temporary Outdoor Seating/Curbside Pick Up permit. If you are a business that (1) already has a use & occupancy permit for outdoor eating and (2) are not modifying the physical footprint of your outdoor seating area, you WILL NOT have to obtain the County permit, but you WILL be required to obtain the City of Hyattsville's temporary permit. For questions please email permits@hyattsville.org or call (301) 985-5000.  

Phase one reopening conditions for outdoor seating and social distancing requirements are as followed:

  1. There can be no more than six people seated at a table 
  2. Tables must be at least six feet apart
  3. No more than fifty people will be allowed at any outdoor restaurant establishment regardless of space
  4. Employees must receive health screenings prior to their shifts and wear face coverings

All employees and patrons of City retail and restaurants utilizing the temporary permits are required to observe federal, state, and County health safety precautions to reduce the continued spread of COVID-19 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR OUTDOOR SEATING
  • Seating plan, with dimensions, showing locations of tables and chairs, egress points, pedestrian pathways and proximity to restaurant
  • Permission letter from property owner (if applicable)
  • Temporary traffic circulation plan (if applicable)
  • Temporary Restaurant License and Permit Agreement (if applicable)
  • Provide approved Prince George's County Temporary Outdoor Seating permit
  • Any additional information which may be reasonably required by City staff to accomplish the review of this application
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CURBSIDE PICK-UP
  • Site plan showing the location of designated curbside pick-up and proximity to business establishment
  • Permission letter from property owner (if applicable)
  • Temporary Retail Business License and Permit Agreement (if applicable)
  • Any additional information which may be reasonably required by City staff to accomplish the review of this application
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
  • Identify whether your existing use and occupancy permit allows for outdoor seating
  • Identify the type of beer, wine, and or liquor license held (if applicable)
  • Identify the number of chairs and total capacity accessible
  • Include certification of liability insurance

To request a City permit, you must operate a restaurant or retail establishment located within the incorporated City of Hyattsville and be in good standing under federal, state, and local laws.
