Large trash items can be picked up from your curb in a few ways, depending on the item.
White goods include air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, and dishwashers.
White goods that work, building materials and some furniture that could be reused, can all be donated to Community Forklift for resale (and to prevent them from going into landfills). To schedule a free pickup, call 301-832-0781.
White goods that don't work, and tires, can be picked up by the City's contractor on the following Monday, but collection must be scheduled in advance by calling (301) 985-5000 no later than the Friday before pickup at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
Really big items (couches, tables, etc.) can be picked up on your regular trash day (as long as it's not a holiday week) if you call to let us know it will be there, at (301) 985-5000. Please note -- items such as refrigerators are subject to a special requirement by Maryland state law: doors must be removed from any item that has an airtight seal or that cannot be opened from inside.
