Blackberry

Blackberries

Available at the Emerson and McClanahan Food Forests

Harvest and Use

  • Harvest in July - August when berries turn fully black.
  • Berries are sweet and tart. The variety in the Hyattsville food forests is thornless!
  • Pull berries gently to avoid squishing. If they are ripe they will easily separate from their stem.
  • Berries can be eaten whole, baked in to pies, cakes, and breads, or turned into jams or jellies.
