Summer Camp

The City of Hyattsville Youth Programs team is committed to providing quality recreational programs for elementary aged children when school is out. Our summer day camp creates a space for children to explore arts and crafts, learn a little with STEM, and gain exposure to a variety of sports and games.

Location 

Summer Camp is held at Driskell Community Recreation Park, 3911 Hamilton Street, Hyattsville, MD.

Dates and Times

There will be eight (8) weeks of summer day camp. Each camp session will last one (1) week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM with drop off starting at 8:30 A.M. The first session starts the week of June 26, 2023 and the last session will occur on the week of August 18, 2023.

Sessions

Each camp session is assigned a unique theme in with activities, crafts and assemblies and/or field trips will be based about it. Some themes will be offered twice during the summer. Repeated session will generally go over the same ideas but activities will be different.

* Camp will not meet on Monday, July 4, 2023 in observance of Independence Day. 

Groups

Camp Hyattsville will now offer two camp groups each session; the Blue Crabs and Red Terps. Each group is geared towards age/grade. The Blue Crabs is for raising Kindergarten through 2nd grade children, while the Red Terps is for raising 3rd through 5th grade children. During registration you must register your child in their appropriate age/grade group.

The Blue Crabs and the Red Terps will participate in the same activities but separately. Staff will be assigned to either group and will work with that group throughout the entire week. Groups will not interact or mingle with each other except on potential field trips, outdoor free play or special activities indented for both groups.  

After Camp Care

We provide  after camp care for an additional fee each week. After care is from 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM. Activities will consist of free play and occasional specialized activities. Space is limited. 

When and How to Register

Registration will open on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 9:00 AM for City of Hyattsville residents. Those who are not City of Hyattsville residents may register starting on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 9:00 AM. Registration closes on June 9, 2023 or when camp weeks reach maximum capacity.

Residency

What does it mean to be a City of Hyattsville resident? And why are fees different for Non City residents? 

A City of Hyattsville residents refers to those who live within the corporate limits of the City of Hyattsville. Residents pay City tax and therefore pay a reduced fee. Having a Hyattsville mailing address does not indicate being a City of Hyattsville resident. To verify your residency, visit www.hyattsville.org/map.

Wait List

A wait list will be available and will be used, up to two weeks prior to the start of a camp session. A staff member will contact you if a spot becomes available. You can see your place in line by viewing your RecDesk account.

All fees are the cost of one (1) child each session. 

**Additional participant applies to household with multiple children attending camp after registering one child. 

***The deposit is due at registration and secures your child's place in camp. Remaining balances are due 21 days (3 weeks) before the start of a camp session. Reminders to pay to the remaining balance will be sent to the email address in your RecDesk account.

Accommodations and Inclusion

Please let us know if your child needs an accommodation. The best way to let us know is to indicate the need during the registration process. You can also note accommodations in your child's RecDesk profile. We will contact you within 1 week (5 business days) after submitting registration, to discuss the best plan of action for inclusion. Please note all request must be made at least 2 weeks (10 business days) prior to the start of any camp program to ensure the best service for your child.
