Tree City USA

Planting, trimming, and removal of public trees are handled by the City's Department of Public Works.

Hyattsville has been designated as a Tree City USA and is a Growth Award recipient.

Tree City USA is a program sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

The Tree Board oversees the revisions enacted to the Urban Forests Section of the City Code. Hyattsville sponsors an annual Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony.

Leaf collection: each year, leaves are collected and composted in the fall, and Christmas trees are mulched each winter, producing free mulch for residents.
