Planting, trimming, and removal of public trees are handled by the City's Department of Public Works.
Hyattsville has been designated as a
Tree City USA
and is a Growth Award recipient.
Tree City USA
is a program sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in
cooperation with the USDA Forest Service
and the National Association of State Foresters.
The Tree Board oversees the
revisions enacted to the Urban Forests Section of the City Code.
Hyattsville sponsors an annual Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony.
Leaf collection:
each year, leaves are collected and composted in the fall,
and Christmas trees are mulched each winter,
producing free mulch for residents.

Tree Maintenance
Last year's drought conditions has placed stress on the City's tree stock and
we need your help in identifying potential problems.
All residents are encouraged to report tree concerns to the City by
leaving a note here
or calling the City Office at 301-985-5000.
These concerns may include maintenance needs such as trimming
or questions on a tree's health. City staff will look at all trees called in
and take all actions necessary to insure safety for residents and property.
Property owners are responsible for tree maintenance and removal of trees on their property.
Tree Planting
To plant trees and shrubs in the public right-of-way you need permission from
the Director of Public Works.
Planting locations and species must be in compliance with the City Tree Ordinance.
