  • Stoves
  • Tires ( you must remove the tire from the rim)
  • Washers & Dryers

Yard Waste
  • Branches Tree branches should not exceed four feet in length and must be tied in bundles or placed in containers to be collected.

These are the ONLY items that will be picked up on Wednesdays (except for Blue Bin recycling).

The item(s) must be set out between the curb and the sidewalk, or by the street prior to 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The City picks up Yard Waste separately so that we can recycle or compost it instead of sending it to the landfill with regular trash.

Mixed Paper Recycling
(Blue Bin - Wednesdays)

Each Wednesday, residents can set the following mixed paper items out for collection in their blue bin:

  • Cereal Boxes (flattened)
  • Colored Paper
  • Corrugated Boxes (flattened)
  • Envelopes
  • Junk Mail
  • Magazines
  • Newspaper (glossy inserts are okay)
  • Phone Books
  • Stationery

These items are picked up from curbside each Wednesday by City crews. Mixed paper items must be set out by 7:00 a.m.

Tips: Preparing Mixed Paper Items for Pick Up

  • Place you loose paper inside folded newspapers to prevent the loose papers from falling out or blowing away.

  • On windy or wet days, make sure paper bags are full and consider tying your bagged paper with non-plastic string to keep your paper neatly bundled.

  • It is okay to set items out on wet days. Wet paper is acceptable for recycling. Do not put your paper in a plastic bag or trash container to protect it from the rain or snow.

  • Plastic bags will contaminate a truckload of paper: they must be separated from the paper before the paper can be reprocessed.

Mixed Paper Recycling has been provided by the City of Hyattsville since January 1996.
