Finance Department
The Finance Department is responsible for
- the proper accounting and reporting of all financial activities of the City
- providing financial information as one element in making policy and administrative decisions
- preparation of the City's Annual Budget
- preparation of the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
- City payroll preparation and distribution
- payment of all City bills
- investment of City funds and debt service on bond issues
The Finance Department receives all revenues due the City including:
- intergovernmental revenues,
- rental unit license fees,
- business license fees,
- space leased fees,
- traders and peddlers licenses,
- driveway permit fees,
- temporary sales permit fees,
- trash haulers licenses,
- alcoholic beverage licenses,
- traffic and other fines.
Tax Collection
Property owners in Hyattsville are subject to real estate taxation by both
Prince George's County and the City of Hyattsville.
Property is assessed by the County.
The current tax rate for real estate tax is $1.25 per $100 of the assessed value.
Business personal property tax rates are $1.15 per $100 of the assessed value
set by the State.
The County and City taxes are billed together by the County.
Tax bills are prepared and mailed out by the County and are due by September 30.
