Citizen Participation

The City encourages citizen involvement in the following committees:

The Activities Committee and Council

Working with the Recreation Department, members of the Activities Committee discuss and coordinate activities planned by all groups in Hyattsville such as the parade and Halloween party.

Their latest endeavor, the Hyattsville International Festival, was a huge success this year.  Residents enjoyed good food, music, activities and ended the evening with fireworks.

The Art Liaison Committee

At the Council Meeting, October 18, 1999, Council Member Walker moved that the Mayor and Council establish a four person Art Liaison Committee to work with the Gateway Community Development Corporation on the establishment of an art district.

She noted that the three towns: Mt. Rainier, Brentwood, and North Brentwood were working on this arts district. This committee would have conversations concerning Hyattsville’s involvement, and would investigate the use of the arts as a unifying theme in the economic development in all four areas.

The committee would investigate the issues and make a recommendation to the Council. The members would include Marialis Zmuda, a staff member, a Council Member and one other member. She noted that this motion did not obligate any expenditure on behalf of the City, but suggested that the City may want to apply for grant funding in the future.

Council President Brogden expressed her desire to see an arts district encompassing all of the surrounding municipalities. The motion carried, unanimously.

For further information contact Council Member Walker or Leave a note here.
