Public Parking
1. Where is public parking available in Hyattsville?
The city has several locations for public parking including both on-street parking and off street parking. This includes public parking lots at University Town Center and along the US Route 1 Corridor on Baltimore Avenue, Farragut Street, Hamilton Street, and Jefferson Street.

Effective Wednesday, November 28, 2012, the City of Hyattsville parking rate and hours of operation are as follows:
$.50 per hour
Monday - Saturday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Our parking meters and pay stations accept both coin and major credit card. There is no charge for parking on Sundays and on Federal Holidays.

Residential Parking
2. How do I obtain a residential parking permit?

3. How much does a residential parking permit cost?

The cost for a Residential Parking Permit is $10.

4. How long is a permit valid?
The permit is valid for as long as you own the vehicle.

5. Is there a limit to the number of vehicles I can register?
The city currently does not limit the number of residential parking permits, however each vehicle must meet State of Maryland Registration requirements.

6. What are the requirements to register my vehicle?
Your vehicle must have Maryland tags and must be registered to your City of Hyattsville address.

Maryland Law requires that address changes be submitted to the Motor Vehicle Administration within 60 days of the move. If you move to Maryland from out-of-state, you must register your vehicle in Maryland within 60 days of moving into the state.

7.  What about guest parking?
Every resident can obtain 2 guest passes, at no additional charge, when the application for a Residential Parking Permit is submitted.

8. What if I have out-of-state tags or temporary tags?
With the exception of the situations outlined below, no Residential Parking Permits will be issued for vehicles bearing out-of-state or temporary tags. You can purchase a one-time 60-day temporary permit for $10, which can be exchanged for a permanent sticker at no charge once the vehicle is registered to your current City of Hyattsville address.

a. Exception for Students
Out-of-state students residing in Hyattsville must obtain a non-resident permit from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. This allows the student to continue displaying out of state tags while living in Maryland. This permit, as well as proof of residency in the city, must be submitted when applying for a Residential Parking Permit.

b. Exception for Active Military
Active military personnel residing in Hyattsville can obtain a Residential Parking Permit for a vehicle bearing out-of-state tags. A valid active duty military ID, as well as proof of residency in the city, must be submitted when applying for a Residential Parking Permit.

c. Exception for Leased & Company Vehicles
Leased vehicles and company vehicles can obtain a Residential Parking Permit if sufficient documentation can be provided. This would include proof of residency for the operator of the vehicle in addition to documentation from the vehicle owner showing assignment of the vehicle to the resident.
