The City uses multiple methods to inform residents about governance, operations, events and activities. They include the following:

The Hyattsville Reporter

The City's official newsletter is in English and Spanish and mailed to every residence within City limits once per month as the center pages of the Hyattsville Life and Times newspaper. The nonprofit newspaper is published independently, and the City purchases these pages as advertising space. Occasionally, the Reporter is also printed as a standalone publication and mailed to all residences. These mailings are typically printed on green paper, and thus have come to be known as the "green sheet."

Hyattsville City Television

The City broadcasts City Council meetings, City promotional videos, and other information on our own cable station. For Verizon subscribers, the station airs on channel 12, and for Comcast subscribers on channel 71. The station can also be streamed live, and Council meetings can be viewed on demand. Our collection of original videos promoting the City can be seen on our Youtube Page.

Email and Text Updates

The City sends out email and text-message updates most days of the week to residents who sign up to receive them. These updates are also sent to numerous community listserves operated by residents. If you would like to sign up your listserve, please contact our communications team.

Emergency Safety Alerts

The City of Hyattsville uses CodeRED to send emergency alerts to residents concerning safety and road conditions via email and text message. To sign up for emergency text alerts, text HVL to 99411.
