Recycling and Compost

Prince George's County collects recycling in the City of Hyattsville. To request a recycling bin or cart, find out when your weekly recycling pickup day is, or obtain more information about collection services, please call Prince George's County's Constituent Services Division at 3-1-1 or (301) 883-4748.

How to Recycle

Cardboard, glass, metal, paper, and plastic can all be recycled. (For a more detailed list of acceptable items, click here.) You do not need to separate the materials, and can place them all in the same blue bin. Put the bin curbside, with the arrow on the lid and the lift bar facing the street, on your recycling pickup day by 6 a.m. Nothing should be in front of or immediately beside the cart.

To report a missed collection or register a complaint about your residential recycling collection, please submit a service request via the online CountyClick 311 Citizen Service Request System, or dial 3-1-1..

Backyard Composting

The City has a supply of backyard compost bins available to residents free of charge. To learn more and request a bin, please contact Colleen Aistis at (301) 985-5057 or caistis@hyattsville.org. Please note that the City will not pick up this compost. These bins are for residents that wish to make and use their own compost.

The City also participates in a Volunteer Food Scrap Compost Pilot Program in conjunction with Prince George's County. On Mondays, our sanitation team collects food scraps from buckets the City gives to program participants. If you are interested in joining  the wait list for this program, please contact Colleen Aistis at (301) 985-5057 or caistis@hyattsville.org.
