The Municipal Citizen's Police Academy of Prince Georges County
On August 9, 2000 the Police Chief’s Association of Prince George’s County was pleased to
announce the creation of the Municipal Citizen’s Police Academy of Prince George’s County.
The academy is the result of a partnership of the
Hyattsville City Police Department, the Prince George’s County Municipal Academy and the Police
Chief’s Association of Prince George’s County. It is specifically designed for
citizens, 18 years of age and older, who are residents of municipalities
within Prince George’s County (like Hyattsville) that fund their own police departments.
The Academy, funded through a grant from
the Governor’s Office of Crime
Control and Prevention, will afford the opportunity for citizens to get an
idea of the work done by police officers.
Among the topics included in the curriculum are community policing, accident investigation, crime
prevention and many others.
Schedule
The first class starts Wednesday, September 6, 2000. The classes
will run for 14 consecutive Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The first
class will be held at the Prince George's County Municipal Police Academy,
located on the Largo campus of the Prince George's Community College. Most
of the remaining sessions will be held at the Hyattsville City Police
Department.
There is another class scheduled for the spring semester.
Applications are available at the Police Department office, and should be
returned no later than September 5, 2000. Call 301 985-5084 if you have questions
or leave a note here.
